The Promise of Collective Impact: Repairing Our Schools
Join us for a thought provoking evening on March 31 with Harvard Business School’s Professor Allen Grossman, Senior Fellow, MBA Class of 1957 Professor of Management Practice (Retired) & former CEO of Outward bound USA.
Join us for a dinner program with HBS Professor Allen Grossman on March 31, 2106.
Professor Grossman is a recognized thought leader
on business engagement in public education, leadership and management
of public school districts, and leading and governing high performing
nonprofit organizations.
He will discuss the promise of "Collective Impact" on education and how the US business community views this process and helps to support it. “Collective Impact” refers to the need for individual not-for-profits to work together in order to solve today’s highly complex social problems. This is particularly true in education, where educators, government, not-for-profits, foundations and business all affect the process in a highly uncoordinated way. Professor Grossman has studied Strive, a national organization of 65 cities, that seeks to unify these diverse groups so that they can define common quantified goals, utilize data to in decision making, and select the most effective programs. Such large coalitions present significant organizational and management challenges.
His interviews with 60 CEOs lead to a new report ”Business Aligning for Students: The Promise of Collective Impact”. Business leaders acknowledged their support for the collective impact approach for its systematic approach to change and the need for careful measure of outcomes in the belief that will provide better educated employees and citizens. Professor Grossman discusses the important contributions that US businesses can make to support such efforts.
