Ted Seides (MBA ’99), the Co-Founder of Protégé Partners, will lead an insightful discussion on the highly attractive, less efficient and under allocated universe of smaller hedge funds.  Ted is very qualified to moderate this panel as he co-founded Protégé Partners, an enterprise that focuses exclusively on investing in smaller hedge funds and select emerging managers.   Ted will be joined on the panel by Steve Galbraith, the Founder & Managing Member of Herring Creek Capital; Eugene Lee (AB ’90), the  Co-Founder & Co-Portfolio Manager of Fort Warren Capital; and Jos Shaver, the Managing Partner & Portfolio Manager of Electron Capital Partners. Biographies of our speakers:

Ted Seides (MBA ’99): Co-Founder, Protégé Partners

Ted began his career under the tutelage of David Swensen at the Yale University Investments Office in 1992.  Following business school and before founding Protégé in 2001, Ted invested in public and private markets at Stonebridge Partners, a middle-market private equity firm founded by former principals of KKR and Clayton, Dubilier & Rice, and at J.H. Whitney & Company, where he worked alongside the Managing Partner on hedge fund seed investing and conducted equity research for the firm’s long/short equity hedge fund. Ted earned a BA cum laude from Yale University and MBA with honors from HBS.

Steve Galbraith: Founder & Managing Member, Herring Creek Capital

Herring Creek Capital is a long-short global equity fund based in Stamford, CT that was launched in 2013.  Steve was previously CIO and Chief U.S. Investment Strategist at Morgan Stanley,  Partner at Maverick Capital and Partner at Sanford Bernstein. Steve is an adjunct Professor at Columbia Business School and earned his BA (summa cum laude) from Tufts University.  

Eugene Lee (AB ’90): Co-Founder & Co-Portfolio Manager, Fort Warren Capital

Fort Warren Capital is a fundamentally driven, long-short credit and event-driven opportunity fund that will launch in the first half of 2014.  Eugene was previously with Regiment Capital, a multi-billion dollar spin-off from Harvard Management Company, and a Managing Director at GSO Capital and Evercore Partners.  He started his career in finance at DLJ.  In addition to his AB from Harvard, Eugene earned his MBA from MIT’s Sloan School of Management.

Jos Shaver: Managing Partner & Portfolio Manager, Electron Capital Partners

Electron Capital is an equity long/short global utility and infrastructure hedge fund that was founded in March 2013.  The fund represents the continuation of an 8 year effort at managing a portfolio of global utility and infrastructure stocks. Previously, Jos and his investment team managed the same strategy at SAC Capital Advisors, L.P. (2008-2012) and Electron Capital Management LLC (2005-2008), which has produced an 8 year track record.  Jos has covered the global utility sector for over 21 years, and prior to founding Electron, led the Project Finance Debt Group and the Utility Investment Banking Group at UBS in Asia. He earned his BA from Colgate University and his MBA from Columbia Business School.
